If the land of “machismo” can elect a woman president, why can’t America’s progressives within the Democrats do the same? America’s progressives have the opportunity to keep Donald Trump away from the presidency and in so doing proving that the progressive movement is alive in American politics.
The idea is so simple that it can work, but it will be difficult.
No matter if you are a party loyalist or a voter, the simple fact is that Joe Biden wasn’t up to the task in the first presidential debate for 2024. The Democrats are in panic mode. Forget the rhetoric about Donald Trump’s lies and the fact that he is a convicted felon, because his political base will vote for him regardless. This is about America’s political future and who can ensure it has one – America’s Democrats.
Although most assume that Joe Biden winning the primaries makes him the nominee for the Democrats come November, the fact remains that the party has not only the authority, but also the moral duty to America to protect America’s future.
The Democratic National Convention is scheduled for August 19 and runs through August 22. This is where the Democrats officially select their nominee for their presidential ticket in November. The idea that Biden’s win in the primaries makes him the nominee is wrong. It is the DNC that officially makes him the nominee.
This leads us to three scenarios where a woman can become America’s first female president in November. The first is that Biden resigns making Kamal Harris the first female president of the United States. As the incumbent, Harris would still have to be selected at the DNC convention as the nominee, which would be likely because of the timing of events.
The second option is that Biden steps aside at the convention and offers Harris as his preference for the delegates to select as the party’s nominee. The delegates would need to agree but, again, it is a likely scenario for many reasons.
The third option is that the convention delegates select another nominee bypassing Biden. They could select Harris as their presidential nominee for the November ballot.
But why would Democrats want Harris as their nominee in scenarios two and three?
Because not only is it time for a woman to be America’s next president but because it is a woman, Stephanie Clifford, better known as Stormy Daniels, who it is that made Donald Trump the felon he is today. No matter how it is spun or what the outcome in November is, or whether the conviction holds after all the appeals, Donald Trump has the dubious distinction of being America’s first criminally convicted former president. What would be better than a woman beating him in November?
It is precisely because Stormy Daniels’ that it is a woman that can mobilize Democrat voters to the polls in November, making Kamala Harris the first woman president for America. It is women, after all, that have succeeded in beating Trump. If America’s progressives truly believe in their ability to lead the country here is the opportunity to prove it to America.
The ticket for Harris will be a tough road because of entrenched party politics, but it is possible for progressives to rally together with other Democrats at the convention to save America from a second Trump presidency. If the progressives can’t force change, America is doomed to a second Trump presidency.
